Well as I understand it, armor pen actually got a pretty hefty buff in the update, but even so, the raw damage bladesmith is going to be what you want 99% of the time. I believe even now the only time an edgesmith is the better choice in on the 2-handed hammers. Maces don't suffer as much loss, but even they are better with a bladesmith IIRC.
