Berets. On top of their afros, Black Panthers often wore berets. The beret is a symbol of revolution. Historically, berets symbolize non-conformism, resistance, and militance; globally they are often worn as a part of military uniforms.

Created to patrol African American neighborhoods to protect residents from acts of police brutality, the Panthers eventually developed into a Marxist revolutionary group.
The fist can represent ethnic solidarity, such as in the Black Power fist of Black nationalism and the Black Panther Party, a Black Marxist group in the 1960s, or the White Power fist, a logo generally associated with White nationalism. A Black fist logo was also adopted by the northern soul music subculture.
