It is often depicted as a black patch worn over one eye, evoking a sense of mystery and danger. While the eye patch has become synonymous with pirates, its origins and purpose are rooted in practicality rather than symbolism.
This eye was the piece of eight of Pirate Lord Hector Barbossa, who gave it to him sometime while he was captain. The eye had a tendency to pop out and even splinter, causing Ragetti endless grief, until Barbossa was able to put the eye in Ragetti's socket more securely.
19 de ene. de 2021 · The idea that pirates wore eyepatches to protect their dark-adapted vision for fighting below deck is an interesting theory, and it is scientifically plausible considering how the eye works. Nonetheless, there is no mention of this reason in historical records and no way to confirm it archaeologically.
