In challenging, you don't start with weapons, so it can be a bit tricky. This is how you do it: Rush manor, get retinue, bait bandits out, run around them and get the camp without fighting. This will let you get mercs to clear multiple camps, until you have enough gold to get enough retinue to clear camps without any loss.
