When he established the school his intention was that it should be a centre for education right at the very heart of Salisbury, in what is probably the most beautiful Cathedral Close in Europe. When the school was founded it had just 40 boys.

  4. BWS - 128 Years of history in one webpage... There had been a grammar school in Salisbury from at least the early 16th Century. The earliest Grammar School (which stood in Exeter Street) had, by the 1560’s, become identified as the Chorister’s School and subsequently as the Cathedral School.
