De 1961 à 1963, Bert Jansch part sur les traces de son mentor sur les routes de France en auto-stop puis au Maroc, où il découvre la marijuana. Déjà fortement versé dans l'alcool, le musicien devient également un fumeur invétéré. De retour en Angleterre, il s'installe à Londres et sort son premier disque éponyme en avril 1965.

Wat waren die jaren 60 toch interessant voor de (Engelse) folkmuziek, met daarin gitaarvirtuozen als Berth Jansch en John Renbourn. Beide gitaristen waren betrokken bij Pentangle, maar hadden ook een solo carriere.

Jansch made his own guitar by the age of 12. After leaving school he began playing guitar, mainly blues, at various music clubs in Scotland and England. His first album, Bert Jansch, was made in 1965 and quickly became successful.
