7 de oct. de 2019 · The short answer is we don’t know, other than that it was in Anglo-Saxon England. The dating and origins of Beowulf are much discussed but still unresolved, though many theories have been put forward. We know the poem was set down in a manuscript around AD 1000, and was probably first composed many years earlier – perhaps as early as the eighth century.
31 de oct. de 2007 · Richard North identifies the poet as Abbot Eanmund, who, he claims, leaves a statement of his authorship at line 2611 of Beowulf in the words æt wæs mid eldum Eanmundes laf ‘that was Eanmund's legacy among men’ (though contextually Eanmund's legacy is a sword, lost in combat to Weohstan and now brandished by Weohstan's son Wiglaf against the dragon).

Although Beowulf is considered the first great English poem, the events are set in what is now Scandinavia.Beowulf and his people, the Geats, are from an area that is now part of Sweden; Hrothgar is king of the Danes. The culture portrayed, however, is the Anglo-Saxon culture using the language brought to Britain beginning with the 5th-century Anglo-Saxon invasions.
The epic can “grow from within,” without outside models. Beowulf’s recounting to Hygelac of his adventures at Heorot has been pointed to by Pearsall as a technique that the poet learned from Virgil. There is irony here, of course, as Virgil’s model was Homer, and Homer was clearly an oral traditional poet.

Beowulf's tribe is the Geats, who reside in Götaland in modern Sweden. Beowulf rescues Hrothgar, the Danish King, whose mead hall in Heorot has been under attack by a troll named Grendel.
