In the 1999 movie American Beauty, Ricky (the weird plastic bag guy) is pretty much hated by his father (Colonel Fitts), who is a homophobe with Nazi relics in his home. As the movie goes on, we see Colonel Fitts look through footage from his son's camera, leading him to believe that he is having an affair with the neighbor man, Lester Burnham.
