Gus Dudgeon (Elton John) was enlisted as producer, and he brought in guitarist Caleb Quaye, as well as Roger Pope and, on mandolin, Davey Johnston.

The similarity in the production values is clear, with the additional instrumentation and string arrangements used to emphasize McTell's gentle vocals and excellent acoustic guitar playing.
