Yoko Ono (1933), di madre buddhista e padre cristiano, fu la prima donna a studiare filosofia presso una prestigiosa università di Tokyo. Non la terminò, bensì si trasferì a New York nel 1952 dove si aggiunse presto ai poeti della “generazione della soffitta”, improvvisatori, artisti, commediografi e musicisti (come ad esempio La Monte Young) di città.
