21 de ago. de 2018 · Women Talking is based on a true story of a Mennonite colony in Bolivia in which, over a period of time, over 100 girls and women had woken up in the morning bruised and bloody. They thought they were being punished and demons were attacking them but eventually it came to light that 8 men were drugging them and then brutally raping them in the night whilst the others slept.

Women Talking (2018) is the seventh novel by Canadian writer Miriam Toews. Toews describes her novel as "an imagined response to real events," the gas-facilitated rapes that took place on the Manitoba Colony , a remote and isolated Mennonite community in Bolivia: [1] Between 2005 and 2009, over a hundred girls and women in the colony woke up to discover that they had been raped in their sleep.
The women of an isolated religious colony reveal a shocking secret about the colony’s men. They gather in a barn to discuss how they might move forward together to build a better world for themselves and their children. They present three choices: do nothing, stay and fight, or leave.
