Windham Hill Records was an independent record label that specialized in instrumental acoustic music. It was founded by guitarist William Ackerman and Anne Robinson (née McGilvray) [2] in 1976 and was popular in the 1980s and 1990s. The label was purchased by BMG through a series of buyouts from 1992 through 1996.

Windham Hill Records was originally an independent label founded in 1976 by William Ackerman and Anne Robinson (2), who were married soon thereafter. It was originally known for folk and acoustic music but became associated with new age music after the success of George Winston's "Autumn" in 1980.
