William Henry Hartnell (/ ˈ h ɑː t n ə l /; 8 January 1908 – 23 April 1975) was an English actor, who is best remembered for his portrayal of the First Doctor, the original on-screen incarnation of the Doctor, in Doctor Who from 1963 to 1966.
