Charles William Haines (January 2, 1900 – December 26, 1973) was an American actor and interior designer. Haines was discovered by a talent scout and signed with Goldwyn Pictures in 1922. His career gained momentum when he received favorable reviews for his role in The Midnight Express.

He faced a choice between his career and his love in 1933, when MGM tyrant Louis B. Mayer asked him to break up with Shields for a studio-arranged marriage. He chose to stay with his partner and lost his box office status, but he also found success as an interior designer and a legend in Hollywood history.
