William Ellis School is a distinctive, dynamic and diverse school serving the educational needs of young people from our local community. We are proud of our history and although much has changed since the school was opened by WIlliam Ellis in Gospel Oak in 1862 we keep true to our founder's principles:
William Ellis School was first established in 1862 in Gospel Oak and catered for girls and boys of a wide age range. In 1889 it was reconstituted as a boys' secondary school. The school moved to its present site, backing onto Hampstead Heath, in 1937.

Harness Writers Association (USHWA) and well-known throughout the northeast, mainly for his announcing talents, passed away towards the end of this past week, with several sources confirming his passing.
The school's curriculum is not consistently well planned or taught, leading to uneven learning outcomes. Pupils' behaviour and attitudes are also inconsistent and not always positive. The school has some strengths in sixth-form provision, personal development and safeguarding.
