In 2019, on what would have been Hopkins’ 75th birthday, London’s Royal Academy of Music posthumously bestowed a scholarship in his name and honor. Nicky Hopkins is an unsung hero, a keyboardist of extraordinary talent whose contributions to music will live on today, tomorrow and the next day.
Ringo Starr’s “You’re Sixteen” was released in 1974. Nick Hopkins’ opening piano trills and groove set the pace for another huge hit. The song was placed on the Ringo album. An all-star cast of musicians joined Ringo Starr on this album, including his ex-bandmate from the Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney.
Our friend Donovan invited the Jeff Beck Group as a guest, so Nicky is playing keyboards on Barabajagal (the song) and Trudi, on the original LP. A total of seven songs were recorded during these sessions: - “Goo-Goo Barabajagal” (released as a single) - “Barabajagal” and “Trudi” released on the album.

Nicholas Christian Hopkins, beter bekend als Nicky Hopkins ( Perivale, Londen, 24 februari 1944 - Nashville, 6 september 1994 ), was een Engelse muzikant. Hij speelde orgel, keyboard en piano. Hopkins kreeg bekendheid door zijn sessiewerk bij The Rolling Stones, The Who, en The Kinks waarmee hij op vele hits hoorbaar is met zijn toetsenwerk.
