Hace 5 días · We’d started the walk at the ornate iron entrance near Yatton railway station. The path follows the old railway branch line from Yatton to Cheddar, which opened in 1869 and closed in 1963. It’s called the Strawberry Line because this was the route trains from the Mendips took when transporting Cheddar’s world-famous strawberries every summer.

Hace 4 días · A walk along the route of the former GWR Cheddar Valley line, popularly known as The Strawberry Line due to the large amounts of the fruit grown between Cheddar and Wells. The line to Cheddar was opened by the Bristol & Exeter Railway as a broad gauge route in 1869, altered to standard gauge in 1875 and becoming part of the GWR in 1876.
