In 1928 Mikhail Rabinovich completed the Vystrel course for senior commanders of the Red Army. From 1930 to 1934 he was a chief of staff of a division and from 1934 to 1937 he commanded the tank forces of an army. In 1939 – 1940 Rabinovich participated in the Soviet-Finish war.

On the southern front, against Denikin and Vrangel, he rose to be commander of a platoon, then of a company. In the twenties he completed the Vystrel courses. He became a member of the Communist Party in 1930. In 1936, having attained the rank of regimental commander, he was sent to China as a military adviser.

After the war General Kreizer commanded several major Soviet military formations and from 1963 to1969 he was head of the Vystrel higher officers' course. In July 1962 Iakov Kreizer was awarded the rank of army general. He was the only Jew to be awarded this rank during the postwar period of state antisemitism. Kreizer died in 1969.
