A ‘Nine’ won the light car class in the 1931 Monte Carlo Rally. The 6-cylinder racing Rileys of 1933/34 formed the basis of the ERA racing cars. Both the ‘Nine’ and the 14/6 were progressively developed, the former having a lowered chassis and semi-panelled body in 1932 and optional preselector gearbox in 1934, which later became standard.
