Both TMT and especially T6 were also heavily influenced by the Hi-Lo’s and the Singers Unlimited, two groups co-founded by vocal harmony master Gene Puerling.

This was an early example of vocalese and has been covered by several artists since then – from George Benson to Amy Winehouse and beyond.
