The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles, is “the first school of music to be established in the University of California system.” Established in 2007 under the purview of the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture and the UCLA Division of Humanities, the UC Board of Regents formally voted in January 2016 to establish the school.
The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music’s Strategic Plan will guide our school’s evolution and growth in the years ahead. This blueprint of our shared future closely examines our curricula, student support infrastructure, instructional facilities and our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, among other important goals.
Virtuoso cellist taught for twenty years at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music On Sunday, February 4, the UCLA community learned of the sudden and unexpected loss of Antonio Lysy (1963-2024). Known the world over for his virtuosic performances and astounding creativity, Lysy was a beloved colleague and teacher, mentor and friend.
The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music offers a broad and encompassing approach to the study of music, aspiring to the highest level of musical performance, analysis, pedagogy, and creativity within a wide range of traditions. These include classical, jazz, popular and traditional music from around the world, as well as emerging forms in composition and new media.
