Travis J. Cross (he/him) serves as professor of music and director of bands at UCLA, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and leads the graduate wind conducting program. He chaired the music department from 2018–23 and was associate dean for academic mentoring and opportunity during the initial years of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.

The new school of music was to retain the name established in 2007, The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, which was created with a generous $30 million gift from the Herb Alpert Foundation. The gift obligated UCLA to enhance collaborations among UCLA’s three music-related departments – Ethnomusicology, Music, and Musicology.
The School of Music hosts weekly tours throughout the academic year, beginning in late September and running through June. Tours of the UCLA campus as a whole are available all year.
