Tropic Thunder diventa così un film pieno di cinema ma anche un film sul cinema e su Hollywood, circo di celluloide che esibisce divi volubili, agenti zelanti e produttori villain e villosi. Lo "smontaggio" delle pellicole più note del genere non è un gioco gratuito ma un attacco all'immaginario bellicista hollywoodiano e ad alcuni "vizi" della fabbrica del cinema.
