He was 18 years old at the time and they released an album, Too Damn Cold. It was produced by Jim Gaines. Throughout his career he has played guitar on the albums of Taylor Hicks, Ricky Fanté, and Raphael Saadiq. Smith is also a record producer and he owns Flat V Studios in Los Angeles, California.

King over a two-year period was just the beginning for this artist and lead guitarist for Taylor Hicks, Ricky Fante, Grammy winner Raphael Saadiq, and more. Josh recorded his fifth CD, Deep Roots, and continued to play with a variety of notable artists.
"Too Damn Cold" is already his third recording. Smith has a stripped down three piece band consisting of Mike Nadaoka on bass and Al Rich on drums.
