6 de jul. de 2023 · Tony McPhee was 14 when he got a guitar for Christmas in 1958. Raised on his siblings’ rock’n’roll and blues records, the Streatham axe-prodigy played his first gig a year later, at his school’s Christmas concert. Leaving school at 16 in 1960, McPhee started work as a GPO engineer.

Tony (T.S.) McPhee was an English blues guitarist, songwriter, producer and vocalist, most famous as founder of The Groundhogs (1964-2014). He was born March 23, 1944 at Redlands House, near Humberston, Lincolnshire, UK. After years of illness, he died in his home due to complications after a fall on June 6, 2023.
23 de mar. de 2024 · En 1966 McPhee creó en paralelo a Groundhogs el grupo psicodélico Herbal Mixture, con los que publicó un par de potentes sencillos para el sello Columbia.Sobre todo el segundo con “Machines”. Ojo, que Pink Floyd aún no habían editado nada.. Muchos riffs e ideas de los Mixture se los llevó a Groundhogs para su posterior evolución del blues a un rugiente y distorsionado rock proto punk.
