Hale wurde in West Point (New York) geboren und wuchs in Tallahassee auf, wo er das Young Actors Theatre besuchte und in zahlreichen Theaterproduktionen mitwirkte. 1992 machte er seinen Abschluss an der Samford University in Alabama.
