They drag down the excellent writing on the five true masterpieces. Dylan’s habit of having albums be half-substantial, half-filler-R&B was annoying from Time Out of Mind to Modern Times, but it was unnecessary on TOoM. There was enough material for a perfect LP without all the superfluous Tom Waits imitations.
