Both Carr's gospel and R&B recordings went largely unappreciated during the time they were released, but found a new audience when Specialty Records released two CDs, covering Carr's entire output on the label and adding previously unreleased material, such as a recording with Rev. C.L. Franklin (father of Aretha Franklin) and his New Bethel Baptist Church Choir in Detroit.
Yet, while Carr’s style and talent were comparable to any of the major rock and rollers of the mid-fifties, her career in the secular field didn’t take off in the way that she had hoped. She made one last effort with an album entitled Wild, Wonderful, Wynona , released on Reprise Records—then a brand-new label founded by Frank Sinatra—in 1962.

In 1949 Rupe brought Wynona Carr west and recorded the young, pretty singer's first session. Echoing the gospel/R&B big sales of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Rupe recorded Carr with a jump blues combo led by pianist and LA studio stalwart Austin McCoy who gave the singer the same kind of swinging groove that the Sam Price Trio were helping Sister Rosetta Tharpe hit with.
This collection of 27 May performances (10 previously unissued) includes such classic solo hits as "Search Me Lord," "I’m Gonna Live the Life I Sing About in My Song," and "Precious Lord," as well as stirring meetings with Sister Wynona Carr; Cora Martin, and the Sallie Martin Singers; the Pilgrim Travelers, and his daughter Annette.
