Thomas Kretschman es un actor alemán, nacido el 8 de septiembre de 1962, en Dessau, Alemania. Antes de convertirse en actor, Kretschmann entrenó para convertirse en nadador olímpico y para los 19 años, dejó Alemania Oriental y comenzó un viaje de un mes a Alemania Occidental, durante el cual perdió parte de un dedo, que luego se volvió a unir quirúrgicamente.
At the age of 25, he began acting, starring in numerous European films and television series, including Westler in 1985. Then in 1991, Kretschmann was awarded the Max Ophüls Prize for best young actor for his role in Der Mitwisser. He went on to star in his first full-length feature, the 1993 film Stalingrad.

[5] Han har förutom i Tyskland också haft stora framgångar i England och USA.Kretschmann har medverkat i ett flertal filmer om andra världskriget bland annat Undergången som släpptes 2004 där han spelar Hermann Fegelein.
