(one of my Desert Island Discs, especially Willow). Over the years I accumulated 8 of her discs, but not this one. Strange, as she has some of my top artists playing with her - Mark Knopfler, for example. The Shouting Stage is a great disc. I was lucky to find a seller on Germany who had a new cd still in its wrapper for a reasonable price.

With one of the most recognisable sounds in the history of modern guitar, Mark Knopfler is the sort of player that it’s sometimes best to just sit back and enjoy. You won’t likely to be able to play exactly like him. With a career now into its sixth decade, Knopfler has sold over 120 million albums and can still sell-out Madison Square Garden at the age of 70 (2019).
Biography 1949–1976: Early life. Mark Freuder Knopfler was born on 12 August 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, to an English mother, Louisa Mary (née Laidler), and a Hungarian Jewish father, Erwin Knopfler. His mother was a teacher and his father was an architect and a chess player who left his native Hungary in 1939 to flee the Nazis. Knopfler later described his father as a Marxist agnostic.

But, the glue holding them together on the instrumental side is the stand out bass playing of Pino Palladino; a master session bassist who has played with some of the top names in the music business, including Mark Knopfler; David Gilmour, Tears for Fears, Pete Townshend, Peter Gabriel, Joan Armatrading, Phil Collins, Chaka Khan and Don Henley, just to name a few.
