6 th January 2014. A Preface to the Poem. ‘Völuspá’ compresses the whole of the Norse vision of the universe’s history and future into its 60-odd short stanzas. It is narrated by a seeress, or Völva, who is requested by Odin to share her memories and prophecies with humankind, ‘Heimdall’s young’.
Völuspá (also Vǫluspá, Vǫlospá or Vǫluspǫ́; Old Norse: 'Prophecy of the völva, a seeress') is the best known poem of the Poetic Edda. It tells the story of the creation of the world and its coming end and subsequent rebirth, related to the audience by a völva addressing Odin.

It is a story, told by a völva (Seeress) that Odin has brought back from the dead for her prophecy. Who is the Volva? Odin, curious as to the fate of his vast creations, summoned forth a seeress known to the ancient Norse as a völva.
In “Völuspá:The prophecy of the seeress” – a poem from the Elder Edda – an old man visits a seeress, as he wishes to know the future and what the fate of the world will be. He looks poor and miserable, but as he has only one eye the seeress recognises him immediately as Odin.
