Exodus is a contemporary retelling of the Biblical story of Exodus, that was released in 2007. It was directed by Penny Woolcock and was shot on location in Margate, Kent, England. The film, which had a working title 'The Margate Exodus' features the burning of a large sculpture of a man made out of waste by Antony Gormley.

Directed by Penny Woolcock, Exodus was made in Margate and will be broadcast on Channel 4 and on cinema release in 2007. Leading actor Bernard Hill ( Lord of the Rings , Titanic) takes the part of Pharoah and Ger Ryan ( Queer as Folk , Fat Friends, and The Street) plays Pharoah’s wife, Batya.

Shot in the English seaside town of Margate, Exodus involved the participation of local people in key roles both on and off screen and as the many hundreds of extras. The film tells a compelling story of identity and migration and great movements of peoples in search of a Promised Land.
