Truth be told, The Man Who Wasn't There is an enormously entertaining and funny film. It contains some of the Coen Brothers' subtlest humor. It helps to be a classic Hollywood lover, especially of film noirs. The name of the store, for instance, Nirdlinger's, is a reference to Double Indemnity.
