The Libertines sono un gruppo musicale indie rock inglese formatosi nel 1997 a Londra e attivo inizialmente fino al 2005, poi nuovamente nel 2010 ed infine dal 2014. Le sonorità della band spaziano dal garage rock al post punk revival.. La band nasce dall'incontro tra i cantanti e chitarristi Pete Doherty e Carl Barât, che vivevano come squatter nella zona orientale della capitale inglese.

Geschichte The Libertines beim Leeds Festival 2010. Carl Barât schloss bereits 1997 erste Bekanntschaft mit seinem zukünftigen Bandkollegen Pete Doherty.Barât teilte sich ein Apartment mit Dohertys Schwester Anni Öu. Sie begannen, Lieder zu schreiben und beschlossen später, eine Band zu gründen.
