Just over 30 years ago, band The La's released their sole LP – a masterpiece that shaped guitar music. But its brilliant frontman has been elusive ever since, writes Shaun Curran.
The La's is the debut and only studio album by English rock band the La's, released on 1 October 1990 by Go! Discs.It includes "There She Goes", the group's biggest hit, and "Timeless Melody".A deluxe edition of The La's was released on 7 April 2008. In 2013, NME ranked The La's at number 153 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
When the La's released their debut album in 1990, it made immediate waves in the British pop scene, as well as on American college radio. Drawing from the hook-laden, ringing guitars of mid-'60s British pop as well as the post-punk-pop of the Smiths, the La's' self-titled first album -- heralded by the hit single "There She Goes" -- had a timeless, classic feel.
