The Jeff Beck Group was formed by Jeff Beck in London in January 1967 after his departure from The Yardbirds in November 1966. Despite a constantly changing lineup, which at one time included vocalist Rod Stewart, guitarist Ronnie Wood, and pianist Nicky Hopkins, the group's unique approach to blues and rock had a lasting impact on popular music.
Jeff Beck Group was not well received by contemporary music critics. OZ magazine's Charles Shaar Murray gave it a negative review, while Billy Walker of Sounds found it inferior to Rough and Ready, and NME ' s Roy Carr felt that the quality of the performances "far exceeds that of the material".
