The novel was serialized in The Strand Magazine (1901–02) and was published in book form in 1902. It was the first Sherlock Holmes tale since the detective’s shocking “death” in the story “The Final Problem” (1893) but was set prior to his demise.

  6. Review by Brett Wright. ' The Hound of the Baskervilles ' is far from a strong film. Blame is often cast at Paul Morrissey for its deficiencies. But the failure of 'Baskervilles' is mostly due to a mismatch of collaborators. The film feels very much like a director-for-hire gig. It is clearly Peter Cook’s and, even more so, Dudley Moore’s show.
