The Harptones are an American doo-wop group, which formed in Manhattan in 1953. The group never had a top forty pop hit, or a record on the US Billboard R&B chart, [1] yet they are known for both their lead singer Willie Winfield and their pianist/arranger, Raoul Cita. The Harptones were a rhythm and blues group from New York that never put their songs on the national R&B charts, but had many oldies standards. They were influenced by the Five Keys, the Skylarks, and the Four Freshmen. They sang at the Apollo amateur night in 1953 and met Leo Rogers of Bruce Records, who signed them and released their first single "I Depended On You".
