The Fugs was een Amerikaanse rockband die in 1965 werd opgericht door de dichters Ed Sanders en Tuli Kupferberg, met Ken Weaver als drummer. De groep kreeg zijn naam van Kupferberg, naar het eufemisme voor 'fuck' dat Norman Mailer in zijn roman The Naked and the Dead gebruikte.

On February 21-22, 1969, the Fugs had their final concerts of the 1960s at the Vulcan Gas Works in Austin, Texas. They were not to perform for the next 15 years. By April we had finished our final album for Warner Brothers/ Reprise, The Belle of Avenue A, and I was ready to retire for a few years as a band leader.
