Founded in 2017, The Field School currently serves 259 students from Pre-K through 8th grade. At full capacity, we will serve 360 students with two classes of each grade. Intentionally located on the West Side of Chicago, The Field School brings to the front of the line children who would not otherwise have access to strong education options.
The Field School tuition ranges from $1,700-$19,900. The average tuition paid per student is $6,500 a year. Families may qualify for financial assistance after completing an application through Clarity. A Purposeful Education. Founded in 1972, The Field School was established by our founder, Elizabeth Ely, to provide students with an inquiry-based curriculum encompassing organized "fields'' of knowledge—taught in an environment that stressed dialogue, analytic thinking, and larger lessons of how young people could grow to become generous, responsible, and self-knowing adults.
The Field School uses a distinctive pedagogical approach that is academically rigorous and holistic, with a strong emphasis on arts programming, family engagement, and community revitalization. The Field School currently operates out of a rented church space in the Oak Park neighborhood and serves more than 150 students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
