Claudia Quintet. The Claudia Quintet are an American jazz ensemble formed in 1997 by drummer and composer John Hollenbeck. The ensemble's precursor was an ensemble featuring "the Refuseniks" featuring Hollenbeck and future Quintet member Ted Reichman.
The Claudia Quintet brings together the acclaimed compositional approach of Hollenbeck with two of the most important male singers in improvised music, Kurt Elling and Theo Bleckmann on their sixth album, What Is the Beautiful?
I, Claudia follows up the Claudia Quintet's self-titled debut release and repeats the magic of that 2001 session. This unique band includes accordion (Ted Reichman), vibraphone (Matt Moran), clarinet/saxophone (Chris Speed), and bass (Drew Gress).
Claudia may have jilted Hollenbeck in his Refuseniks days, but in an odd way she inspired him to assemble one of New York’s most consistently creative, innovative and hard to pin down bands, and endowed the band with her elusive mystery.
