History of the University. Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1899, Southwest Texas State Normal School opened its doors in 1903. During the first century, the Legislature retained the regional designation in the name, but as its mission changed it became first Normal College, then successively Teachers College, College and University.
Her Texas State family loved her beyond measure. She graduated in 2020 with a BFA in Musical Theatre, and she was a true Bobcat in every sense of the word. One of the most joyful, impactful experiences Emma had during her college years was participating in the summer Shakespeare abroad program in London with her friends.
Carter was born July 17, 1953, in Austin, Texas, and grew up in Smithville. After high school graduation Carter would enroll and attend Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas . He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater in 1974.

28 de ene. de 2020 · The university experienced a tremendous growth in enrollment after 1950 to 4,461 in 1964, 6,580 in 1967, and 12,894 in the fall of 1974. The full-time teaching staff increased from 94 in 1950 to 275 in 1967 and 400 in 1971. The physical plant was greatly enlarged, with plant investment expanding to $15,418,438 in 1965.
