Sydney Turing Barlow Lawford was born in Tunbridge Wells on 16th Nov 1865. He served in the Royal Fusiliers in the Boer War with the rank of captain and reached the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel. He was a Major-General in World War One, commanding the 22nd Brigade and then the 41st Division.
Sir Sydney Turing Barlow Lawford, KCB (16 November 1865 – 15 February 1953) was a British Army officer, and the father of movie star Peter Lawford. He was born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. His first marriage was on 30 September 1893, at St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge, London to Lillian Maud Cass, who died on 26 November 1900.
He was, of course, the son of Lieutenant-General Sir Sydney Lawford (‘Swanky Syd’) (1865-1953), the only man to command 41 st Division during the Great War, and a fine soldier.
