Hace 4 días · Stratford upon Avon is situated 22 miles South East of Birmingham and 8 Miles South West of Warwick and is close at hand to the North Cotswolds villages. The town's name is derived from the Old English name of Straet meaning Street and Ford that meant that it forded the river into the town.

The Almshouses: Richard Lord and Emmota his wife by deed dated 4 April 1555 granted to trustees a close of land in Stratford, the rents and profits to be to the use of the 24 almspeople. The land was sold in 1897 and the endowment is now represented by stock producing about £90 annually.
