A superb compilation that brings together almost all of the solo recordings that Veda Brown and Judy Clay cut for Stax in the late 60s (Clay) and early 70s (Brown). Although neither of these formidable soul girls enjoyed much chart action, they both deserve to be more than footnotes in the history of Soul.

Founded in 1957 as Satellite Records, the label changed its name to Stax Records in 1961. It also shared its operations with sister label Volt Records . Stax was influential in the creation of Southern soul and Memphis soul music. Stax also released gospel, funk, and blues recordings.
