St. Kieran’s College is a diocesan Catholic secondary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Ossory. St Kieran of Saighir is said to have preached the Gospel in Ireland before St Patrick. The College was established in 1782, ‘the first Catholic College in the Kingdom’ to open its doors after Grattan’s Parliament had relaxed the Penal Laws in the same year.
We have also encouraged and supported students with interests in developing their sport of choice including, swimming, orienteering, ice-hockey and canoeing to name a few. Sporting activities have always played a vital role in the life of St Kieran’s College. Participation is encouraged for all students in all years.

St Kieran’s College is located on the College Road, just off the Callan Road, near the heart of Kilkenny City. The School office is opened from Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 4.30pm and Friday from 8.30am to 4.00pm. School Secretary – Ms Paula Bibby: school@stkieranscollege.ie.
