The album, called Spontaneous Combustion, was recorded from Mike Portnoy's DATs of the sessions because the original master tapes disappeared before the mixing stage. A few songs from Liquid Tension Experiment 2 were spawned from these jam sessions, including "914", "Chewbacca", and "Liquid Dreams".

A few days into the sessions, John Petrucci's pregnant wife went into premature labor - leaving myself, Jordan and Tony stranded in an already set-up and booked recording studio.

As prog-rock enthusiast know Liquid Tension Experiment 2 was released the following year and more recently downsized version of the band titled Liquid Trio Experiment and the CD Spontaneous Combustion, which turns out to be a real dandy of a free form jazz-rock-fusion session without Petrucci on guitar and Mr. Rudess running wild on keyboards.
