There were six series in all, the first five numbered from Q5 to Q9, and a final series titled There's a Lot of It About. The first and third series ran for seven episodes, and the others for six episodes, each of which was 30 minutes long.

Spike Milligan's Q series (Q5, Q6, Q7 and so on) was one of the most surreal and controversial sketch shows ever made. It was amongst other things an influence on Monty Python's Flying Circus, featuring sketches which had no ending. It was also attacked because much of the humour was racist and sexist.
