John Weldon "J. J." Cale (December 5, 1938 – July 26, 2013) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Though he avoided the limelight, [2] his influence as a musical artist has been acknowledged by figures such as Neil Young , Mark Knopfler , Waylon Jennings , and Eric Clapton , who described him as one of the most important artists in rock history. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of JJ Cale’s career, his first eight iconic albums - Naturally, Really, Okie, Troubadour, 5, Shades, Grasshopper, and #8 are presented in a limited edition vinyl box set that features some of his best-known songs including ‘Cocaine,’ ‘Travelin’ Light,’ ‘Call Me The Breeze’ and ‘After Midnight’.
J J Cale wrote short songs with a particular feel to them. They have a variety of tempos, but I doubt anyone who knows his music would mistake his music for anyone else's.This album has a good variety of his best tracks. Those that are looking to getting into Cale's music could do worse than start here.
