Sound-System is the thirtieth album by jazz pianist Herbie Hancock and the second of three albums co-produced by Bill Laswell with the ‘Rockit’ Band. Guest artists include saxophonist Wayne Shorter, guitarist Henry Kaiser, kora player/percussionist Foday Musa Suso and drummer Anton Fier.
In 1982 Fowler sang on the Celluloid Records release Do The Smurf For What It's Worth. Fowler guested on Herbie Hancock's classic electro-funk albums Future Shock (1983) and Sound-System (1984), as well as the 1985 albums Compact Disc by Public Image Ltd and Language Barrier by Sly & Robbie.
Sound -System is logical next step after Future Shock album. Using the very same techno-pop electronic rhythms and song structures, Hancock added at least two new things, which are doing this album more listenable. First, he made the sound a bit heavier, even using rock elements in some places.

In 1986, he sang a song written by Paul Simon which appeared on Philip Glass's Songs from Liquid Days.
